The party filing a claim must pay a filing fee at the time the party files a Statement of Claim. The amount of this fee is based on the total amount of the claim including any punitive and treble damages requested, but excludes interest and expenses.
In addition to the filing fee, FINRA charges hearing session fees for each hearing session that takes place with the arbitrator(s), whether telephonic or in-person. The amount of this fee will depend on the amount in dispute, the number of arbitrators selected to hear the arbitration and the number of hearing sessions conducted. A "hearing session" is a meeting with the arbitrators of no more than four hours. In the award, the panel will decide which parties are ultimately responsible for the hearing session fees.
