Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators
Revised Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators
FINRA Dispute Resolution asks its mediators to adhere to the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators and to use it as a guide for their conduct in FINRA Dispute Resolution mediations. These standards were first formulated by the American Bar Association, the American Arbitration Association, and the Association for Conflict Resolution in 1994 and revised by the same organizations in August of 2005 in response to the exponential growth in the field of mediation.
Dispute Resolution wants to be sure that all of our mediators are aware of the new Model Standards and are familiar with the changes. The function of the Model Standards is to serve as a guide for the conduct of mediators, to inform the mediating parties, and to promote public confidence in mediation as a process for resolving disputes. To maintain the quality and standards of the FINRA Mediator Roster, Dispute Resolution expects its mediators to review and follow the guidelines provided by the Model Standards. View the Model Standards here. To help interested mediators learn more about the changes made to the revised guidelines, we are also providing a link to a comparison document of the 1994 and 2005 versions of the Model Standards.
