TRACE Certificate Procedures
To copy a certificate from one workstation to another: A digital certificate can be copied from one workstation to another by exporting the certificate onto a diskette and importing it onto the new workstation. However, the import/export option is not available in all instances. Prior to proceeding, please contact the Help Desk at (800) 243-4284 to ensure this is the correct option to use.
Instructions for exporting certificates in Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher:
- Go to Tools > Internet Options > click on Content tab > click on Certificates button.
- After clicking on the Certificates button, a list of installed certificates should appear. Then, click on the certificate under the Personal tab once so that it is highlighted and click on the Export button.
- After clicking on the Export button, the Certificate Export Wizard screen will appear. Click on the Next button.
- The next screen will ask whether you want to export a private key. Click radio button next to yes, export private key and Next.
- The next screen will ask you to choose the file format you want to use to export the certificate. Under Personal Information Exchange, select Enable Strong Protection and click Next.
- The next screen will ask you to enter a password to be used with your certificate. It is suggested that you use the same password as what is on your certificate for the Nasdaq Web site. Click Next.
- The next step is to choose the location where the certificate will be exported. Click on Browse and select drive and location where certificate will be exported. Click Save and click Next. It is suggested that you use the user ID as a file name for the certificate.
- Final step, on this screen, click Finish. You should receive a message stating the export was successful; click OK. The certificate has been successfully exported.
To import the certificate in Internet Explorer 5.5:
- A certificate can be imported by opening it from its current location. For example, if the certificate is on diskette, open the A:/drive and double-click on the certificate icon.
- The Certificate Import Wizard will appear. Click on the Next button to continue.
- Click browse to locate where the certificate was stored and open the file.
- Select the certificate and click Open. The file path will appear in the File Name box. Click Next on this screen to continue.
- Enter the password that was created for the private key. Ensure that the option, mark private key as exportable is the only option selected and click Next to continue.
- The option automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate should be selected. Click Next to continue.
- Click Finish on this last screen. The certificate has been successfully imported. Close the browser, restart, and attempt to access the TRACE secure site.
Instructions for exporting certificates in Netscape 6 and higher:
- Go to Edit > Preferences > Privacy & Security > Certificates and click on the Manage Certificates button.
- In the Manage Certificates dialog box, click Backup.
- In the File Name to Backup screen, you will be prompted to assign a file name, choose the location to save the certificate in and click Save.
- On the next prompt, you will be asked to enter a password, which will be exported with the certificate. After entering the password, the OK prompt will be highlighted, click OK.
- The user will then receive a prompt stating the certificate has been successfully exported with the private key. Click OK.
To import the certificate in Netscape 6 and higher:
- Go to Edit > Preferences > Privacy & Security > Certificates and click on the Manage Certificates button.
- In the Manage Certificates dialog box, click on the Restore button.
- Select the certificate from the location it was exported to and click Open.
- The next prompt is to enter the password used to encrypt the certificate. After entering the password, click OK.
- After entering the password and clicking OK, the certificate will appear in the Certificate Manager. The close Netscape, reopen the browser, and attempt to access the TRACE secure site.
