NASD Foundation Okays Grant for Marketplace Radio Programs Broadcasting Investor Education Messages
— The NASD Investor Education Foundation has awarded a grant of $487,342 to American Pubic Media (APM) to produce investor education and protection-focused radio programming for 8.5 million listeners of NPR's Marketplace
, among them women and older Americans.
The two-year project, called Investor Education on Marketplace Money and Marketplace
, will produce 128 radio news segments, including interviews and listener call-in features, first person narratives and feature-length stories. In addition to the educational news and informative segments, APM will develop interactive online resources. The program will provide audiences with timely information intended to educate them on issues impacting investment activities, protections and options.
Segment topics will vary from show to show and will not provide specific investment advice. Listeners will be encouraged to gain as much information as possible from reputable sources before making any investment decisions. The NASD Investor Education Foundation, established in 2003, supports innovative research and educational projects that give investors the tools they need to better understand the markets and the basic principles of financial planning. The Foundation has awarded more than $4.5 million in total to organizations for educational programs and research projects targeting the underserved segments of the population.
