Web-Based FOCUS Information

September 7, 1999

Dear NASD Member:

As stated in NASD Notice to Members 99-70, National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®) members are required to use the new Web-Based FOCUS application to file FOCUS reports with NASD Regulation, Inc., beginning with the upcoming third-quarter filings (due October 25, 1999). Web-Based FOCUS replaces the current PC FOCUS application.

With Web-Based FOCUS, members will no longer be able to send copies of FOCUS filings to third parties (clearing firms or banks) using the Sprint electronic mailbox on the Sprint Public Data Network. Instead, Web-Based FOCUS allows members to specify up to five Internet electronic mail addresses to send FOCUS reports. Each firm is responsible for working with the third parties, if necessary, to obtain the specific e-mail addresses, define business processes, and resolve any issues. Similarly, any member firm that receives copies of FOCUS filings from other parties must provide those parties with the appropriate e-mail address in order to continue receiving copies of FOCUS report submissions.

Questions regarding the new Web-Based FOCUS product may be directed to (800) 321-NASD or send an e-mail.

Sincerely,

Daniel M. Sibears Signature
