Letter to Members - April 16, 2008
April 16, 2008
Dear FINRA Member:
As you may know, the SEC is proposing amendments to Regulation S-P, which governs privacy of consumer financial information. Since this issue is likely to impact small firms, I wanted to encourage you to review the proposal.
The proposed amendments lay out more specific requirements for protecting information and responding to information security breaches. The SEC's proposal would also broaden the scope of the information covered by Reg S-P's safeguarding and disposal provisions.
You can read the full proposal in the Federal Register Notice. All comments on SEC Proposed Rule S7-06-08 must be received on or before May 12, 2008, and can be submitted by any of the following methods:
- Use the Commission's Internet comment form; or
- Send an email to email@example.com. Please include File Number S7-06-08 on the subject line; or
- Use the Federal eRulemaking Portal. Follow the instructions for submitting comments.
Send paper comments in triplicate to Nancy M. Morris, Secretary, Securities and Exchange Commission, 100 F Street, NE, Washington, DC 20549-1090.
All comments should refer to File Number S7-06-08. Please note that the SEC will post all comments on their Web site without change; therefore, you should submit only information that you wish to make available publicly.
