Upcoming Board Meeting

From:

Robert W. Cook, FINRA President and CEO

To:

FINRA Member Firms

Date:

Tuesday, February 26, 2019

This week, the FINRA Board of Governors will hold its first meeting of 2019 in Boca Raton, Florida. During the meeting, the Board will meet with staff from FINRA’s Boca Raton District Office to hear about the work that is specific to that office. In addition, the change in venue will provide the Board the opportunity to meet with representatives from member firms that are headquartered in the Boca Raton area during a special member reception. We look forward to hearing the firms’ perspectives on issues that are most important to them.

Highlighted below are some of the key items the Board committees will consider during the Board meeting.

  • The Regulatory Policy Committee will review several rulemaking proposals, including:
    • proposed rule changes relating to high-risk firms; and
    • a proposal to expand the collection and dissemination of security reference data in TRACE for corporate debt securities.
  • The Regulatory Operations Oversight Committee will discuss the current status of FINRA’s Risk Monitoring and Examination Program transformation, and will receive an update on the recent 529 Savings Plan initiative.
  • The Nominating and Governance Committee will discuss 2019 governor vacancies and elections.
  • The Finance, Operations and Technology Committee will review the 2018 uses of fine monies and a proposal to upgrade technology infrastructure for FINRA’s trade reporting and quotation facilities and support systems.

More information regarding the Board’s operations, including the membership and responsibilities of its committees, is available on FINRA’s governance page at www.finra.org/governance.

I look forward to sharing an update about these discussions shortly after the meeting.

Sincerely,

Robert W. Cook
President and CEO
