NASD Names Howard M. Schloss Senior Vice President, Communications and Government Relations
Washington, D.C. — The Board of Governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®), today appointed Howard M. Schloss Senior Vice President of Communications and Government Relations, for the NASD and its subsidiaries.
In this position, Schloss will direct corporate communications for the NASD, NASD Regulation, Inc., NASD Dispute Resolution, Inc., and the American Stock Exchange. He is responsible for media and government relations strategic programs, and will oversee the editorial production, design and multi-media communications services provided to the NASD family of companies. Schloss will report to Michael D. Jones, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. Andrew MacMillan, who has served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for the NASD, is now Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for Nasdaq.
Commenting on the appointment, NASD CEO and President, Robert R. Glauber said, "Communicating with our key audiences – investors, broker/dealers, and Congress – has become increasingly important. We are fortunate that Howard has joined the NASD because he brings a clear understanding and years of hands-on experience managing the interplay between the markets, Capital Hill, and the public."
Before joining the NASD, Schloss worked at the New York Stock Exchange’s Washington D.C. office, where he served as Vice President, Public Affairs. Before joining the NYSE, Schloss worked for the U.S. Department of Treasury, first as Deputy Assistant for Public Affairs and then, from 1995, as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs under Secretary Robert E. Rubin.
Schloss worked at Powell-Tate Public Affairs before joining the Department of Treasury, where he supervised a number of client accounts from 1991 to 1993. From 1989 to 1991, he served as Communications Director, and from 1987 to 1989, Deputy Communications Director, for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), managing public affairs and media activities for this national political organization. He also served as chief spokesperson and speechwriter for the DCCC and its chairman, Beryl Anthony.
Mr. Schloss began his communications career as a writer and an editor in various capacities at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Midwest Bureau of United Press International (UPI). He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Journalism.
