NASD Foundation Funds Investor Education For Civil Rights Groups Through Brandeis University Grant

Washington, D.C. — The NASD Investor Education Foundation has awarded a grant of $403,875 to the Institute on Assets and Social Policy (IASP) at Brandeis University to develop and deliver a model investor education program for members of civil rights organizations nationwide.

The project, called Building Investment Capacity Among New Constituencies, is intended to provide investors with information about financial planning, investments and protections against risky market practices. IASP and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF) will collaborate to enhance the financial knowledge and institutional capacity of Leadership Conference in Civil Rights (LCCR) member organizations and the millions of Americans they serve, including women, Hispanics, African Americans and other minorities. The two organizations will educate the staff of LCCR member organizations in order to develop and deliver traditional financial literacy education, coupled with investor protection education for inexperienced investors.

All materials developed for the project will be free of charge, and a dedicated Web site link will be established at the LCCREF site to provide streamlined information and materials for LCCR's members and their affiliate organizations. The project is designed to serve as a model for other organizations nationwide.

The NASD Investor Education Foundation, established in 2003, supports innovative research and educational projects that give investors the tools they need to better understand the markets and the basic principles of financial planning. The Foundation has awarded more than $4.5 million in total to organizations for educational programs and research projects targeting the underserved segments of the population.
