Required Minimum Distribution Calculator

Use this calculator to determine your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from a traditional 401(k) or IRA. In general, your age and account value determine the amount you must withdraw. Note that taxes may be due on the distributions. Do not include balances from a Roth IRA or Roth 401(k).

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 raised the RMD age to 73 for people who turn 72 years old on or after January 1, 2023. If you turned 72 years old in 2023, you generally must begin withdrawing money by April 1, 2025, (the year after you reach 73) and can use this tool to calculate your RMD.

Note: Users whose primary beneficiary is a spouse more than 10 years younger must use the Joint Life Expectancy Table in IRS Publication 590-B, which will generally produce lower required distributions. You may also use the IRS worksheet to calculate your RMD.
