Qualification and Educational Requirements
Prerequisites Eligible candidates must meet at least one of the following educational requirements:
  • A juris doctorate, or a master's degree in accounting, health financing or social work;
  • A bachelor’s or associate’s degree, plus two years of full-time experience in one or more of the Medicaid planning fields, including law, finance and social work/geriatric care management within the previous six years;
  • Professional securities license(s), insurance license(s) for life and health insurance lines in one or more state, or CFP designation, plus two years of full-time experience in one or more of the Medicaid planning fields, including law, finance and social work/geriatric care management within the previous six years; or
  • Four years of full-time experience in one or more of the Medicaid planning fields, including law, finance and social work/geriatric care management within the previous six years.
Eligible candidates also must meet an experience requirement, which includes working in one of the following fields full-time for a minimum of two years within the six years immediately prior to eligibility for certification:
  • Medicaid program administration;
  • Law or its equivalent;
  • Finance or its equivalent;
  • Accountant or its equivalent; or
  • Care management, social work or its equivalent.

Examination Type Final certification exam (online at testing center, closed book, proctored)
Continuing Education Requirements 20 hours every three years
