Webinars - Minimum Requirements
In order to access FINRA webinars, your system needs to meet certain technical requirements, as outlined below. Please contact your firm’s internal technology support with questions regarding whether your computer meets these requirements.
Windows Requirements: For best results, Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2008 (requires the Desktop Experience), Windows Vista, Windows 7 or later; Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 SP1, or later; Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or later, or Google Chrome 1.0 or later are recommended. Windows Media Player 9.0 or later. Microsoft Silverlight 3.0, or later. You may download the most current versions of Internet Explorer for free at www.microsoft.com. To view presentation using Firefox over Windows Vista or Windows XP, use the ActiveX Plug-in you are prompted to download when you first attempt to view a presentation; or, copy the Windows XP plug-in dlls to your machine. Test your system.
Silverlight 3.0 Requirements: If using the Silverlight Player option, Microsoft Silverlight 3.0 or later is required. It can be downloaded from: www.silverlight.net/. Silverlight Player does not support playback speed control. All Silverlight Players support closed captioning, but the small Silverlight Players only support closed captioning when in full screen. A firm's system may not support the Silverlight Player, if so, use the Windows version or contact in-house technology staff for assistance. Test your system.
Mac Requirements: For best results, Apple Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later; Apple Safari 2.0.4 or later or Firefox 2.0 or later are recommended.
Internet Requirements: For best results, viewing the program over a broadband Internet connection of 400 Kbps or greater sustained bandwidth is recommended. *NOTE: Each client pulls a stream equivalent to the bitrate of the webcast. Default encoding is about 300 Kbps, which means each client would pull about 300 Kbps while viewing. Network administrators should be cognizant of their available Internet bandwidth when users are participating. You can confirm your available bandwidth by running the bandwidth test.
Firewall Requirements: Some corporate network administrators block streaming media at the network firewall. If you are unable to view streaming video, you may need to notify your network/IT administrator that you wish to participate in a webcast. Please advise them that the following firewall ports need to be opened in support of proper webcast viewing: TCP/80, TCP/1755, UDP/1755, TCP/554 and UDP/554. Additionally, streaming media over port 80 should be enabled on the viewer’s computer. Packet shapers, VPN’s, and/or proxy servers can also cause adverse effects on live streaming. These should be bypassed if possible. Additionally, streaming may be blocked if firewalls deny the MMS or RTSP protocol. There may also be a security policy that restricts or filters content based on site URL (this is sometimes referred to as “white listing” a domain). The webcast player is delivered from a yorkcast.com domain. But the live video stream is more than likely being delivered from our CDN on an akamai.net domain. If you successfully used a Test Your System presentation prior to the live event, the most likely reason you successfully watched it may be because the test presentation is published as on-demand content and is being served from a yorkcast.com domain. Have the IT administrator check for URL filters, and be certain that akamai is not being blocked.
