I should be able to buy any stock offered publicly and not be required to take any special tests unless I decide to become a broker myself. I know the risks associated with owning any stocks and leveraged or inverse funds really don't pose anymore risk than owning any other stock. This is a free country and I want it kept that way.
I don't agree with this regulation. If you want to restrict the risk, why do you stop for option trading? Also many penny stocks and starting company stocks are more volatile and risky than leverage stocks. Investors need to have variant ways to trade to make profits and hedges. There is no way to regulate our freedom of trading.
Removing an investment option from public investors is not inline with free market ideals that the American stock market was built on. With regulations on what is allowed to be bought and sold by the public hindered it could erode trust in the American stock market. The only way to have any hope of fixing any issue with shorts would be to change trading tech. There should be no reason it is not used on block chain, specifically ledger technology. The settlement of shares in seconds will no longer allow the manipulation and will likely eliminate naked shorting.
There needs to be accurate, timely, and mandatory reporting guidelines around short interest. Accurate and timely would be the important part for the individual investors. The mandatory reporting would be for institutional investing. There are currently too many ways to misrepresent and obfuscate actual short interest information.
I’m looking for (and I’m sure MANY other investor as well ) further transparency on short sales and short interest reporting, I feel as though there might not be all the information available to the public and need reaffirmation that I can trust the market I’m investing in, many thanks!
It is the investors duty to make sure they perform they fulfill their due diligence on the stocks they are going to invest. Most of the trading platforms warn the investor about the nature and volatility risks of these stocks already. There is no need for extreme oversight as such. They should put these regulations in action for the gambling industry if they want to protect the consumers/retail
