It is completely demoralizing as a retail investor to see what goes on with the stock market manipulation via shorting, off-exchange trading, and lack of reporting on short positions. The market is only fair if you have enough money to play. The fact that institutions can trade off exchange, use a million different tactics to short a stock (especially high frequency trading), and get fined
Why are “meme stocks” being allowed to be shorted when there are no shares to short?
The organization doing the shorting should not be the one reporting that it actually shorted or the current amount. Everything in the stock market should be electronic, reported as it happens by automated means, and documented for all to see in a central location. Everything in the stock market could be automated and these "market makers" / hedge funds are taking advantage of the system
As a new investor, I am skeptical about the fairness of the stock market to the average person. Their should not be a dark pool or after hours trading , illegal and synthetic shorts are killing the American economy. The true stock investment is tainted and the “SEC” is not not policing there policies. The American people are catching on to illegal orchestrated attacks on company’s by hedgefunds.
First I would like you to read this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/o1sggl/the_hidden_shorts_the_correlation_of_ftds_and/ I believe that institutions are hiding the true number of short positions on certain stocks, that they are doing this using rehypothication, dark pools, and shady (fraudulent?) use of puts and calls. I ask that FINRA consider the following changes: 1.
I would like to point out two proposals that I absolutely think must be accepted. The others are still very good to increase accountability and reestablish some semblance of trust. "Synthetic Short Positions: In addition, FINRA is considering requiring firms to reflect synthetic short positions in short interest reports. For example, enhanced short interest reporting could include synthetic
Timely and accurate information accessible by all participants in the markets only make them better. Daily shorts by number of shares, , Stock borrowed, % of float short, FTD (and even FTR) and changes from last report in all these categories. As a dream data point for me: cost of stock borrowing. All this date is available daily except the only way to accumulate it is to PAY a company to provide
The market rules need an overhaul. Penalties for failure to return shares should be steeper base on how much you're shorting. If someone shorting a stock for 100k, a ten thousand dollars fine seems reasonable. But if I'm shorting the stock by millions or billions they shouldn't be paying 10k for breaking the rules.. matter of fact they should not be breaking the rules in the first
Hedge funds must be hold accountable for shorting companies out of business. There should be fair limit of share available for short and time of in which a stock can be shorted. Naked and synthetic shares should be illegal.
Summary
FINRA is soliciting comment on a proposal to establish a new trade reporting requirement for transactions in over-the-counter options on securities with terms that are identical or substantially similar to listed options. FINRA is proposing to require firms to report this information to FINRA on a daily basis (end-of-day) for regulatory purposes only.
