There has been very blatant manipulation of meme stocks including AMC and GME, which are both heavily shorted. As a retail investor I feel the game is rigged in favor of the hedge funds. Please make data on short positions more transparent.
Please do not restrict my rights to choose what I invest in. Any publicly traded stock should be just that. Public. If I want to buy it I should not have to pass any kind of test. I am just as smart as any regulator and am able to make my own investing decisions.
There are plenty of warnings regarding the use of leverage with stock market investing. As a manager and individual investor, the disclosure and disclaimer hoops are already plentiful. This issue is less significant than the investor confusion created by dual licensing of brokers as RIA reps and Series 7 agents. The BIC rules didn't reduce the confusion.
In a fair and open market there should be transparency and a level playing field for all investors; be they retail or institutional. The # of shares shorted should be available IN REAL TIME throughout the trading day. Dark pool trading must be eliminated. We can clearly see that large institutions are buying massive quantities of AMC stock (for example) on the dark pool and then flooding the
I would want all the of these actions implemented and a DAILY accounting of it in both graphing and table form made available for public consumption. I believe that short positions are a part of the market's functionality. However, only 1 level. That is, a true 1-to-1 correspondence of short to stock share. I have been an investor in the stock market for over 20 years, but am considering pulling out for good. The regulators have shown everybody that they aren't in control, and allow hedge funds to run rampant with manipulation and most likely buy them off with kickbacks in the form of fines, while they break all the rules. The level of gross criminality is off the charts, and at the very least
This is an overreach by regulatory powers.
As retail participants in the stock market, we are already having to compete with large institutions and automated algorithms.
Having ability to use inverse and leveraged instruments is one of the few ways we can level the playing field.
Please do not make these instruments inaccessible to ordinary people.
A big portion of my portfolio is leveraged index fund and I do not like it when the government tells me I cannot investment them. The alternative for me would be much riskier individual stocks. You want to prevent ppl from risky investments by forcing them to make even riskier investment?
