How do we get transparency and regulations involving synthetic shares or IOU’s. I understand the necessity to make trading instant, but these shares should be required to be covered in a day or two. Shorting shares infinitely that aren’t owned, borrowing borrowed shares, and synthetics are a major issue. We need transparency and legal consequences for fraud and manipulation.
The problems are numerous first of all the dark pools account for 60% of transactions that way price doesn't go up when people buy. Also short positions never have to cover because they hide them in deep in the money options and just kick the can down the road. You can see examples with stocks fail to deliver and being on the threshold list - it matters not they never cover and get away with
General’s speaking, the more reporting, the better. Especially when it comes to short interest as well as synthetic short positions. As a day/swing trader, given how quickly the markets move and their volatility, weekly reporting doesn’t help me because I need to operate on the most up to date information possible. So daily reporting would be the only thing worth it to me. Thanks for doing this
FINRA should absolutely implement each of the proposed regulations. Additionally, FINRA should implement harsher penalties for violations, given that current fines are more often than not calculated into most transactions as a “cost of doing business.” Substantial compliance will not be possible until financial regulations are re-fanged. The current regulatory conditions within our marketplace,
I think the key thing here is daily transparency. I love the work you are doing with this and it increases my faith as an investor. Self reporting is also a concern, but since it's going to be several different levels of reporting, I would expect more accurate reports. Soon to see this implemented, the better!
Timely and accurate information accessible by all participants in the markets only make them better. Daily shorts by number of shares, , Stock borrowed, % of float short, FTD (and even FTR) and changes from last report in all these categories. As a dream data point for me: cost of stock borrowing. All this date is available daily except the only way to accumulate it is to PAY a company to provide
For the markets to be a truly capitalist vehicle, all data available so some must be available to all. SEC Rules mean nothing to these large firms because the penalties are not severe enough to matter. The relatively small fines for violating the laws of the US and the rules of the SEC are simply the cost of doing business for these firms. It is public knowledge they budget these things into
While these increased reporting requirements around the currently broadly abused short selling practices in the stock market (including naked shorting, mis-reporting longs as shorts, re-hypothecated shares, married puts/calls, and fails to deliver) are a step in the right direction, the proposed changes do not go far enough to provide transparency and fairness to the public. Please consider
I believe that in this age of technology we live in, there is no reason the reports should not be daily. After all, do we not want a fair and transparent market. The sooner information can be attained, the sooner people can make informed decisions.
please stop or limit shorting of stocks. the average workers only retirement is in their 401k. the rules behind shorting stocks needs to be changed. they kill the average investor that is relying on this for their retirement.
