FINRA announced today the results of its election of two Governors to its Board of Governors. The announcement came after the Annual Meeting of FINRA firms, where Scott A. In December of 2002, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), New York Attorney General, the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and NASD reached an agreement in principle with ten of the nation's largest investment banks to resolve issues of conflicts of interest involving research analysis and initial public offerings (IPOs).
FINRA has seen a recent significant spike in investor complaints resulting from recommendations made by fraudulent “investment groups” promoted through social media channels. Complaints describe bad actors, posing as registered investment advisers, who advertise “stock investment groups” on Instagram and other social media channels and then turn to encrypted group chats on WhatsApp to communicate with interested investors and pitch investments.
