The Series 65 exam — the NASAA Investment Advisers Law Examination — is a North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) exam administered by FINRA.The exam consists of 130 scored questions and 10 unscored questions. Candidates have 180 minutes to complete the exam. In order for a candidate to pass the Series 65 exam, they must correctly answer at least 92 of the 130 scored
To become registered, securities professionals must pass qualifying exams administered by FINRA to demonstrate their competence in the particular securities activities in which they will work. An individual must pass the exams prior to engaging in those areas of the business.

You must be registered with FINRA if you’re engaged in the securities business of your firm, which includes salespersons, branch managers, department supervisors, partners, officers and directors.
FINRA is responsible for the Central Registration Depository (CRD®) program, which supports the licensing and registration filing requirements of the U.S. securities industry and its regulators. The CRD program covers the registration records of broker-dealer firms, branch offices and their associated individuals, including their qualification, employment and disclosure histories; it also directs the processing of form filings, fingerprint submissions, collection and disbursement of registration-related fees, qualification exams and continuing education sessions. The registration filing requirements of the CRD program are being integrated into the new FINRA Gateway system.

And you don’t have to be associated with a financial firm to take it!
