For a mechanism that is designed to drop the price, why is is shorting permitted whilst the price is already dropping? This does not feel like a mechanism for price discovery, rather a way to force the price down, triggering stop losses from people trying to manage risk. If someone truly believes that the price will drop, let them short during the uptick only. Let there be a central database
I currently use inverse ETF's to hedge my retirement stock portfolio. As a result of this hedging during 2022 my portfolio has dramatically outperformed the overall market. I do not find these ETF's difficult to understand as they seem pretty straightforward to me. Please do not take this ability to hedge away from me.
With all due respect, your current rules are useless and are easily ignored and/or side-stepped. There is no transparency in the sector concerning shorts. Numbers are self-reported and easily manipulated, hidden, or misrepresented. Without mandated, accurate, and daily transparency of short data, the entire stock market is subject to malfeasance. Recommend weekly reporting by from financial institutions and made public on stocks shorted and positions held for shorted stocks. Require increase financial penalties in excess of 75% of invested value to errors in reporting shorted positions
Thank you for allowing the opportunity to post feedback and make recommendations to make the system fair for all traders. I feel that short interest should be reported intraday. If a stock price can be updated within milliseconds then this should be possible too. I also feel that large institutions that have over 100,000 of any stock should have to report their short positions pre and post market
