FINRA’s Mediation Program for Small Claims

FINRA offers a free or low-cost virtual mediation program, specifically designed for claims involving $100,000 or less.
Parties can mediate their dispute at these rates:

  • NO COST for claims of $25,000 or less;
  • $50/hour (split between parties) for claims of $25,000.01 to $50,000; or
  • $100/hour (split between parties) for claims of $50,000.01 to $100,000.
    In this claim range, parties will receive a short list of three mediators to select from.

When parties mediate through this program, FINRA waives any mediation filing fees.
Mediation is an informal process and offers both parties the opportunity to discuss their case privately and confidentially with an experienced mediator. FINRA mediators settle 4 of every 5 cases mediated through FINRA's Mediation Program. Learn more about the mediation process.

How to Participate

To initiate a mediation through this program, fill out FINRA’s online Request for Mediation form. Specify a relief request of $100,000 or less to be automatically enrolled.

Please note that cases involving expungement of a customer complaint do not qualify for mediation.

If you are a party in an active FINRA arbitration case, please email [email protected] with your interest in mediation.

FINRA will contact the other parties to determine their interest in mediating the dispute. Since mediation is voluntary, all parties must agree before the mediation can go forward. Once the parties agree to mediate, FINRA will assign a mediator who will contact the parties to schedule and conduct the mediation.
